(Not a fanfic, but something I wrote. xP)
The year was simple. Destruction with wars, but hey, who cared? Not anyone I knew. Apparently in this year no one cared about life. Even people who did at one time don't. So Suicide was just another thing to overlook. Days went by, as did a month. No one could find the girl. What had happened? I said after the autopsy the C.O.D. was Suicide. But why? Why would anyone want to commit Suicide? Why did this one? The others had been different. Quick, easy, a passing without a breath. But this one was different. Why hadn't she been found, when in reality her body was in plain site? A friend volunteered to give an explanation to me, why her best friend died a month ago.
"Her boyfriend lied to her. He swore he wasn't cheating on her, but in the end, when they saw each other, it wasn't what she wanted. She had caught him. People who she didn't know told her he had cheated on her, but it's hard to believe someone you don't know." She explained.
"Why wasn't her body found when it was in plain site?" I asked, watching as the best friend closed her eyes, trying to keep tears from falling.
"She said no one would find her because no one cared. I told her I cared, but she said her life wasn't worth living anymore. She lost everything. She loved him. She had cut herself the first time they broke up, and the second was a difficult time too. She told me the third time would be the last, because they weren't going to break up for a simple reason. They would break up because he cheated on her. I asked her how she knew it would happen like that, and all she said was she just knew. She said she'd die when it happened, so to enjoy having her around while we did. I talked to her boyfriend when it all started, and he denied it. I wonder if I should have told him she was dead. I wonder if that would have changed anything." As tears rolled down her cheeks, I asked why the boyfriend didn't just tell his girlfriend he was cheating on her. The best friend shrugged.
"I don't know. Maybe he cared." I look at her confused.
"But if he cared, he wouldn't have cheated on her. So surely there's another explanation?" The friend look at me, her eyes blood-shot from crying.
"I don't know. I don't know. But I miss her, and I wish she was still here so we could laugh about something random. We always had fun. I don't understand why she thought her life wasn't worth living. She had me, and many other friends. Why did one person change all of that?" I watch her for a moment, then take a deep breath.
"You know, a lot of the cases I get in here are murder. The Suicide cases I get are normally quick. Easy. Things you can get around the house. And it's generally where they can be found. She was different. Like her spirit never left her body. Something like that. She was in plain site, and no one took notice. She didn't die from a gun, pills, any of the usual. I can't put an exact C.O.D. on her case." Her friend looked up at me as I explained what observations I made during the autopsy.
"She died from a broken heart. That’s the simplest I can give you." I nodded. I knew a lot of teens committed Suicide when they broke up with someone they really liked, but she didn't jump. She didn't pull a trigger. And apparently pills wouldn't be fast enough. She hadn't hung herself, and she hadn't slit her throat. It was a mystery, and yet the answer was so clear to me.
"When can she be buried?" Her friend asked, making me snap back to reality.
"Soon. After we finish the full autopsy, we can release her body." Her friend nodded, then stood up.
"I guess I should tell everyone else." She walked out, leaving me there. I turned and went back to the autopsy room. I pulled out her body, and began looking over it again. Surely there was something I missed? I couldn't find anything still. I was through. There was nothing more I could do. It was all just a soft little story on how she died. No one could be charged, but everyone would feel the difference of her being there and her not. Or maybe they would just assume she was never here? Maybe they would go into denial. Whatever they did was they're decision. Just as long as they didn't end up in here as well.
